The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We are Hiring!

Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society becomes safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.

The Borås area consists of the Borås Detention Center and the Borås Prison. The detention center is part of the police station located in central Borås, while the prison is situated in the Västeråsen district of Borås. Construction of a new detention center near Borås Central Station is underway.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. In the Borås area, you can work in both the detention center and the prison. Working in a detention center focuses on care and security and is a job with clear routines. Some individuals are detained for long periods and only meet their lawyer and the staff at the detention center. This places special demands on you as a correctional officer. Working in a prison is varied: care, monitoring, searching, and security work are mixed with release planning and counseling and motivational work.

Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for others and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of people, respect for the individual, and belief in human development.

You will begin your employment with an introduction period of three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training for correctional officers, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During your probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your suitability for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
  • Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
  • Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
  • Good computer skills.
